Foundational Support

While staying on my Antimicrobial – Oxygen – Detox – Biofilm protocol I added numerous supplements and activities to address core system support. This included the following categories:

  • Anti-inflammatories
  • General Energy
  • Hormonal Support
  • Heart Support
  • Nervous System Repair
  • Collagen Repair
  • Nutritional Support
  • Co-infectants
  • Exercise

I used strong anti-inflammatories such as Curcumin, Ginger, Polygonium Capsicum (Japanese Knotweed, see Buhner Protocol), and MSM/Glucosamine  for muscle and joint pain. For basic energy and strength I used Vitamin D/K2 daily, Vitamin B12 (Methylcobalamin) orally and IM shots, Methylfolate, B Complex (modest amounts as it also nourishes Candida), CoQ10 and Russian Ginseng (Eleuthero). During the most critical time I also added Meyer's Cocktail IVs on a weekly basis, which helped with energy and strength.

Based on my hormonal panels I added endocrine support to improve sleep, thyroid and energy. My hormonal system, which had been working relatively well my entire life, got out of whack really fast, it was a bit scary for me. Sleep and energy was off quite a bit. However, using all the support protocols I got a most of it back together relatively fast, just within a few months.

For sleep I take occasional Cortisol Manager to get my rythm back on track as well as 5-HTP and GABA. During the most difficult I was taking Melatonin on a daily basis, but I stopped that practice to give the body a chance to start producing its own again. I still have some sleep issues and my cortisol cycle is a bit off, but all in all I was fortunate as I did not have to deal with hormonal challenges as much as other Lyme patients.

For digestion and intestinal support I added L-Glutamine, Aloe extract, probiotics and Candida fighters to keep things running properly. I am also using digestive enzymes along with Betaine HCL on a regular basis as my stomach acid production and digestive capabilities had really gone downhill .

To address heart palpitations I used homeopathic Strophantus as well Hawthorne extract. Homeopathic Strophantus turned out to be extremely effective for Lyme heart palpitations and helps reduce palpitations greatly within a short period of time.

Curcumin is a great anti-inflammatory

To address muscle spams and twitches I took magnesium in capsule form internally as well as externally (applied to the skin as magnesium oil). Later on I added Collagen for joint and tissue repair as well as Lecithin to help repair the affected myelin sheath of the nerves and help reduce twitching. I still have occasional twitches, especially after an infrared sauna session, but it is not as bad as it used to be. I am currently researching stem cell therapy supplements to see if I can better direct my body towards nervous system repair.

I had optimized my nutrition already in prior years due to other unrelated health issues and was on a high vegetable, low carb, no grain, no gluten, paleo type diet. In essence similar to the GAPS  diet, but without any fruit except Lemons and Avocados to reduce sugar and help with Candida. I was using daily green drinks and I was trying to get fresh veggie juice at least twice per week.  I tried to keep carb consumption as low as possible and restricted them to carrots, squash and pumpkin only, no grains at all. Lately I have been experimenting more and more with Dave Asprey's diet philosophy and some of his products available at the Bulletproof Executive. Their beef collagen is excellent and I also use the advanced MCT oils (Brain Octane) for better energy and mental performance. I have stopped all dairy except butter from grassfed cows, which I eat in high quantities.

Although I was very low energy at times I tried to maintain  walks as often as possible. My eyes had become light sensitive and I figured Lyme wanted me to stay indoors and avoid light and oxygen so they could eat away at my body undisturbed. I literally did the opposite, get as much fresh air as possible, avoid wearing sunglasses and let the light in. Screw them. I also used my trampoline occasionally to get my lymph moving and detox better.

Walk on the Beach in Marin County

All in all having the right underlying support regime is critical as it helps making one's journey less painful and provides more energy. I do believe diet is probably the most critical element, gluten and grains is a definite a no no, and carbohydrates in general should be reduced greatly as well during the critical times.

Just found your site and wanted to thank you for providing so much wonderful information! I've been fighting Lyme for 2 years (had it for 10+, though) and have found my FIR sauna to be one of the most helpful additions to my treatment plan. I've been very interested in adding essential oils so thank you for sharing some great info on those.
Wishing you well!
